Cardiovascular Imaging Research Lab

Transforming Cardiovascular Care Through Innovative Technology

The UCLA Cardiovascular Imaging Research Laboratory (CVIRL) brings together physicians and scientists with expertise in cardiovascular disease, imaging science, engineering, physics, and bioinformatics.

Our goal is to design advanced imaging technologies, including cutting-edge MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) techniques, and computational tools to enable non-invasive, patient-specific assessment of cardiovascular disease. We translate advanced imaging and modeling methods into clinically actionable technologies, empowering physicians and patients to mitigate the impact of cardiovascular disease.

We are committed to advancing innovations in cardiovascular care while training the next generation of leaders in cardiovascular medicine, imaging, and technology development.

Upcoming conferences

We will attend the following conferences:

  • SCMR 2026, Rio de Janeiro
  • American College of Cardiology Scientific Session 2026, New Orleans
  • ISMRM 2026, Cape Town

News & Highlights

  • SCMR 2026 - Finalist for the SCMR Early Career Award: Dr. Thomas Coudert has been selected as a finalist for the SCMR Early Career Award. His work on dynamic fractional myocardial blood volume (fMBV) mapping using MR Multitasking will be presented in the dedicated Early Career Award session.
  • American College of Cardiology Scientific Session (ACC.26) - Presentation:  Danesh Soltani, MD, MPH will present his work, “Risk Reclassification of Heart Failure in Persistent Atrial Fibrillation Using Dynamic Regularized Adaptive Cluster Optimization (DRACO) CMR-Derived Left Ventricular Ejection Fraction,” at the ACC.26. He will showcase a novel CMR-based approach to improving heart failure risk stratification in patients with persistent atrial fibrillation.
